The highly anticipated documentary about the dairy industry, MILKED, is finally available to a world audience.

Years in the making, the feature-length film delves into the darkest corners of the dairy industry, in an effort to unearth the picture-perfect story carefully crafted by agriculture's largest organizations animal husbandry.

In the documentary MILKED, activist Chris Huriwai travels to Aotearoa (the Maori name for New Zealand), talking to experts in medicine, ecology, politics and business in search of answers.

“We initially intended to investigate the environmental and health impacts of all animal agriculture activities in Aotearoa. But upon further research, it became clear that milk was the story that needed to be told,” said MILKED Director and Producer, Amy Taylor.

And that story is not as simple as people often think. As well as disturbing animal welfare violations, the dairy industry is responsible for excessive water and land use, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, the film explains.

That's partly why the team behind MILKED launched a petition alongside the film's release. The petition calls for a global reduction in dairy herds - by at least 25% - over the next three years.

There are four petitions: for the UK, US, Europe and New Zealand. If you are interested, you can sign the petition(s) here.

With input from the likes of Dame Jane Goodall, Suzy Amis Cameron and Keegan Kuhn - and backed by Academy Award-winning director James Cameron - MILKED has excited many before the film's release. many weeks.

When the creators of the documentary MILKED launched a crowdfunding campaign, it took just 12 days to raise $100,000 NZD.

As a result, the group increased its goal by $20,000, with plans to use the funds for the film production itself, but also campaigns to raise awareness about the environmental impact of the dairy industry.

The funding will also go towards government lobbying initiatives, and will provide financial support to farmers who leave the dairy industry in favor of animal-free work.

Taylor commented: “We are so grateful for the incredible support we have received from around the world. “It shows how many people are passionate about exposing the truth about the dairy industry and seeing a better path forward.”
